Program Overview

Tara Switenky manages the Strengthening Families Program (SFP), and Danielle Bear is the Caseworker for SFP families. SFP also employs a group of facilitators, elders, baby-sitters and peer mentors who are utilized for family programming.

What is the Strengthening Families Program?

We provide a safe, inclusive space to welcome families. This program is voluntary and there is no cost to participate. SFP consists of 14 units delivered over weekly evening sessions. Both the caregiver and child/youth must attend together - this program requires partnership. Every group is lead by a diverse team  consisting of peers, elders and teachers.

What to expect from the program?

Families must complete an intake process before being accepted into the program. There are prizes and incentives for attendance. Transportation, meals and babysitting is provided. SFP proactively caseworks with each family to address any identified needs, reduce barriers and bridge to services. Counselling is provided at no cost to any participant that requests it.
